Watsonville wildlife control tip of the month:

How to get House Mice out of your attic

Mice searching for a good shelter may inhabit under your roof in the attic. Mice populate quickly creating very unpleasant environment to live. The Watsonville pest control sign that mice have been living in your attic is noise, droppings, smell and physical evidence. In order to get rid of mice in the attic we recommend following these four steps:

1. INSPECT. Find the ways mice are getting into your attic. Are there holes, vents, openings in piping, maybe there are holes in the walls or the roof? Make thorough Watsonville wildlife removal examination and check even the smallest gaps that appear. Study which holes mice mostly use, otherwise mice will be back again.

2. BLOCK. Once you have inspected your house for holes, block them. Seal every opening that mice can use to get in or out from the house. Make sure that the sealing material in use is thick and strong, because mice tend to chew their way in. Be sure not to leave any gaps for mice to get in.

3. TRAP. After careful examination that all the holes are blocked begin the installation of the traps. Do not use poison as it will cause more problems leaving dead mice bodies to rot in the walls and under the floors. The most recommended method of trapping is snap trap. Use high-calorie, fatty or sweet bait like peanut butter or bits of bacon on the trap. Using Watsonville animal trapping snap traps mice will be quickly killed. Traps should be installed in the areas where the most droppings are seen. Do not forget to pet the traps near the walls. Make sure that children and pets do not enter the attic, snap traps may hurt them.

4. CLEAN. Thoroughly clean the attic. Remove mice from the Watsonville exterminator traps, throw them out. Vacuum the droppings and clean the urine. Leaving droppings and urine unlearned may cause mold formation in your attic. Consider using strong cleaning products to eliminate odor of peculiar mice smell and their feces. Poor cleaning may cause recurrence of mice as they are attracted by other mice smell. Once you have got rid of mice, be sure to prevent from getting them back again. Consider the Watsonville animal control construction and sanitation of your house. Inspect your house regularly searching for holes and voids. Do not keep opened food containers in basement or on the floors. Keep your grass cut short as mice like to hide and seek for food in taller grass.
